Pioneer Living History Museum in Arizona

Often times if a vacation is not in the budget or we don’t have the time, but we so desperately want to take one, our family will visit some place new that’s not too far from home. A day trip to explore a new place is always a great idea. Just recently I took my daughter to the Pioneer Living History Museum for her first time and we had such a great day.

Located off the I-17 and Pioneer Rd, there’s an old 1800’s town tucked away in the desert mountains. Over 90 acres of authentic buildings and historically accurate reproductions.

Everything from a school house to a jail to a saloon and a church. Literally an entire town to walk through.

We loved the 1890’s dress shop and looking at all of the vintage dresses, shoes, hats, purses, accessories, sewing machines, and dolls. There were even authentic dress sketches and magazine clippings. Talk about COOL!

We panned for gold…

And we checked out log cabins, a blacksmith shop, the sheriff’s office/jail, and the sweetest yellow and white trimmed Victorian home… We daydreamed about what it might have been like to live in this adorable house.

This beautiful church that sits next to the mountain still holds wedding ceremonies… so romantic!

I kind of have a ‘thing’ for old school houses and the one at Pioneer Living History Museum is so neat. Look at those desks! There’s a small, one room cabin next to the school house and that’s where the teacher would live (which was considered a luxury since teachers typically lived with another family).

We were lucky enough to attend the museum on a day where it wasn’t too crowded or too hot and there were volunteers working (the entire place is almost run solely on volunteer time), so we were able to watch the wild west gun show melodrama . It was SO much fun and very interactive.

Seeing all of this history brought to life was very entertaining and educational for our entire family. We really had such a great time and I know we will be back to visit the Pioneer Living History Museum.

Have you ever been? I highly suggest putting it on your calendar!
